Keep Douglas Beautiful Committee
The mission of Keep Douglas Beautiful (KDB), an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, is to promote environmental sustainability and educate the community to take action every day to increase safety, reduce litter from our open spaces and waterways, improve recycling effort, and keep Douglas beautiful.
The executive board of KDB is comprised of 8 members: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Non-voting ex-officio members are the Community Development Director, City Marshal, and Public Information Manager. The Executive Director is the City of Douglas Grants Administrator.

KEEP DOUGLAS BEAUTIFUL RECEIVES DONATION FROM LIONS CLUB
The Keep Douglas Beautiful (KDB) Committee received a donation from the Douglas Lions Club on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2023. The donation will help with purchase of items for KDB’s educational efforts in the schools and registration of the Little Libraries projects. KEEP DOUGLAS BEAUTIFUL RECEIVES BOOKS FROM ELKS LODGE
Keep Douglas Beautiful volunteers receive book donations from the Douglas Elks Lodge for the Little Libraries Project. The Little Libraries Project is a new project aimed at environment protection education and literacy in our community. Little Libraries will be installed at Eastside Park, Emma Ward Park, N. Madison Avenue Park, and Wheeler Park. The community is invited to become involved with this project either by donating gently used children’s books or by donating their time to help organize/distribute books or by helping to maintain the Little Libraries in their neighborhoods. Trash Dash on the Greenway Trail with Keep Douglas Beautiful
Keep Douglas Beautiful is working to expand beautification, litter prevention, and sustainability efforts by plogging across Douglas on the Greenway Trail. Join the Keep Douglas Beautiful Committee for the Trash Dash Plogging Event on Saturday, November 18, 2023, 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m.
What is Plogging? It’s a combination of walking or jogging and picking up trash along the way – anyone can join in on the fun! Trash Dash volunteers should meet at the Greenway Trail entrance at Hobby Lobby. Participants will walk and pick up trash along the trail until 11:30 a.m. Trash bags, trash sticks, and gloves will be provided. Immediately following the event, volunteers will be served a hamburger lunch at Fire Station #3 located at 1333 SW Bowens Mill Road (next to Williams Institutional Foods).

WE ARE ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR 2024 CLEAR YOUR CLUTTER PICK-UP EVENT
On Saturday, January 20, 2024, 9am-11:30am, Keep Douglas Beautiful volunteers will assist citizens living within the city limits with clean-up needs to help dispose of large, unwanted items. As part of the Keep Douglas Beautiful Work Plan, this service will be offered once per year for selected applicants.
Any citizen living in the city limits of Douglas may apply for the service by completing an application at the Community Development Department located at City Hall, 302 S. Madison Avenue, or by downloading an application from https://www.cityofdouglasga.gov/KDB. Please mail or drop off the completed application to the Community Development Department located at City Hall, 302 S. Madison Avenue, Douglas, GA 31533. Applications must be completed with all information. The application deadline is December 1, 2023.
- Approved citizens will be notified at least two weeks before the event. Priority will be given to disabled and elderly (65 or older) residents.
- All items must be placed curbside for pick-up. ONLY PLACE ITEMS AT CURBSIDE ONCE NOTIFIED THAT PICK-UP WILL OCCUR.
- Acceptable brown and white good items include furniture, washing machines, refrigerators, dryers, stoves, microwaves, televisions, etc. All chemicals MUST BE drained from appliances.
- NO hazardous chemicals such as paints/solvents, household cleaners, pesticides or herbicides, motor oil, antifreeze, batteries, or tires will be collected.
Due to the limited time allowed on January 20, 2024, not all applicants will receive pick-up, so please return completed applications as soon as possible. Applications will be received on a first-come, first-served basis. This is a one-time curbside pick-up service for selected applicants offered by Keep Douglas Beautiful Committee.
