On Monday, July 31, 2023, the City of Douglas/ESG Operations Water Department was advised that an accident had occurred on Spooner Road involving the damage of a fire hydrant. Water Department/ESG Operations crew members were able to isolate the section for the repair and water was turned back on for customers at 3 a.m. on August 1, 2023 (this morning). The water pressure in this area may be low due to the loss of water in the system and customers may experience discolored water.
When water line/hydrant repairs are performed, citizens may experience discolored water. Please allow water to run clear prior to cooking or washing clothes. Customers are advised to use precaution when washing clothes as it may discolor clothing. The Water Department has “rust-out” available, free of charge, to any customer who has washed clothing and clothing was discolored. Please call ahead to pick up the requested packets of “rust-out” for clothing at the Douglas Utilities building (100 Public Works Drive) located at the Municipal Services Complex, 360 Georgia 206 Connector NW.
To report discolored water, please call the Customer Care Center at (912)384-3302 or dial 3-1-1 or the Water Department at (912)389-3447.
