On Thursday, March 17, 2022, at 6PM, the Douglas Mayor’s Youth Council (DMYC) held its monthly meeting at the Youth Center.   The Council recognized the March Outstanding Youth, Community Member, and learned more about the unique uses of physical therapy.

The Youth Council member chosen to spotlight for March is Aby Mazariegos.  Aby attends Coffee High School where she is active in FBLA and the National Honor Society.  Aby also spends a great amount of time with her Church, Senda De Vida, as the drummer on the Worship Team and as a Youth Leader.

Jr. Commissioner Aby Mazariegos and the Youth Council chose to acknowledge Jackeline Moncada as the Outstanding Community Leader for March.  Ms. Moncada was selected for her contributions to the community as a Board of Trustee member with FCA, board member with the Medical Institute of South Georgia, and as the youth pastor for Senda De Vida Ministries.

Following the monthly recognitions, the youth council received updates from DMYC Coordinator Dinitra Williams and learned about their opportunity for an upcoming community service project with Keep Douglas Beautiful.   Parks and Recreation Director Stevie Young provided an update about the Premier Sports Athletic Complex, swimming pool, and Miracle Field projects. Special guest speaker, McKenzie Craft with BenchMark Physical Therapy presented information about physical therapy and the importance of correct movement and posture to help prevent injuries.

The next Mayor’s Youth Council will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2022, 6PM at the Youth Center. Students for the 2022-2023 school year are now being accepted.
