[ARCHIVED] CITY ISSUES ADVISORY TO WATER CUSTOMERS TO BOIL AND ALSO CONSERVE WATER

make-water-safe-400px

Due to the broken water line on the north end of town, the City of Douglas is issuing an advisory to boil water before consuming it.  At the time, customers on the north end are asked to conserve water. This includes the areas of McNeil Drive, Chester Avenue, and Jardine Stadium. Due to the complexity of the repair and not being able to stop the water flow, the water pressure has become extremely low. Even if you are not on the north end of Douglas, we ask that everyone conserve as much as possible and carefully boil for consumer safety.

A large water main break on McNeil Drive is causing water pressure in parts of the water system to drop to dangerously low levels in this area. When this occurs a potential health hazard may exist in these areas of zero pressure from backflow and/or back-siphonage of water of unknown quality into the water distribution system.

In order to protect the public from a potential health hazard, all citizens that have experienced water outages and/or low water pressures are advised to “boil” all water prior to use for drinking, cooking, or preparing baby food. The water should be boiled for at least one minute after reaching a rolling boil. Citizens should continue to boil their water until they are notified by their drinking water utility that the water system has been restored to full operation, and that the microbiological quality of the water in the distribution system is safe for human consumption.  For more information please contact the City of Douglas Water Department at 912-389-3444 or by dialing 311.
