[ARCHIVED] RED CROSS SHELTER UPDATE IN DOUGLAS

“The City of Douglas continues to keep a close watch on the path of the Hurricane Irma path and potential damage it could cause to this community,” says City Manager Terrell Jacobs.  “Following a meeting held Friday morning with local EMA, officials, and other public safety agencies, a decision was made to move the Douglas BBQ Cook-Off award presentations to 3:30pm and to end the South Georgia BBQ & Outdoor Festival at 4pm.  This will allow workers to breakdown from the festival and allow emergency workers time to setup so that the shelter will open at Central Square Complex at 8:00pm on Saturday, September 9, 2017.  The situation will continue to be monitored and plans will be re-evaluated several times over the next 24-48 hours.  If more shelters are needed after opening Central Square Complex, they will be located at Young’s Chapel Missionary Church and First Baptist Church.”
