Mission Statement

Responsible for issuing building permits for residential and commercial new construction and renovations, reviewing plans, and conducting building inspections, ensuring compliance with all municipal construction codes.

ResponsibilitiesWhat Requires a Building Permit

The Inspections and Permits Division is responsible for the review of plans and issuance of building permits for all residential and commercial buildings and remodeling projects within the city. The division conducts inspections of construction projects to ensure compliance with International Code Council building codes and local codes and ordinances. Duties include the application and enforcement of all federal laws, state laws, and local ordinances and rules and regulations pertaining to the City of Douglas. Assists the Code Enforcement Division with code enforcement and the Planning & Zoning Division with zoning matters.

Applications should be submitted to the Building Inspections office via email spridgen@cityofdouglasga.gov OR in person at City Hall located at 302 S. Madison Avenue.
