[ARCHIVED] VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT FOR HERITAGE STATION MUSEUM

The City of Douglas is seeking individuals with an interest in local history and preservation of the Heritage Station Museum to sign up as volunteers. There are many opportunities for volunteers at the museum whether it is working directly with the public or working behind the scenes on the next special exhibit.

“Although the Main Street office is currently located at the museum and plans are to also relocate the Tourism office there as well, volunteers are still needed to help with preservation of permanent exhibits, archiving, coordinating programs and temporary displays, and to act as docent during special programs and weekend operating hours”, say Georgia Henderson, Central Services Director. “We are exploring new ways to continue to provide quality exhibits and special events in the Museum. Further plans for the museum will include forming a local Historical Society to help ensure the Heritage Station Museum will have continuous programming and convenient hours of operation available to the public.”

Anyone who is interested in the preservation and promotion of history is asked to complete a Volunteer Application and drop it off at the Heritage Station Museum, Thursday – Saturday, 10:00am – 4:00pm or at Central Services office, Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm. Forms are available online at www.cityofdouglas.com/volunteer or a copy can be faxed or mailed upon request by calling 912-389-3461 or 912-383-0277.
