[ARCHIVED] DONATIONS TO H.E.A.T. KEEP GEORGIANS WARM IN THE WINTER

The Heating Energy Assistance Team (H.E.A.T.) was created in 1983 to help keep Georgia residents warm during the cold months. Even with federal energy assistance funds, there is simply not enough money available, especially for Georgia’s senior citizens, who often must choose between paying their heating bills and having food in the pantry. That’s why H.E.A.T. (the Heating Energy Assistance Team) is working with the City of Douglas to raise much-needed energy assistance funds.

“Each night during the winter season, in our community, there are children to go to bed cold because their families cannot afford to heat their home,” says City Manager Terrell Jacobs. “Now, is the time to donate to H.E.A.T. so that families, who qualify, may receive the funds that will enable them to heat their homes and keep their children warm.”

H.E.A.T. operates statewide and is available to qualifying households regardless of the type of energy needed to heat the home. Funds that are contributed to the program are distributed by the Georgia Department of Human Resources through local community action groups. Nearly 87,000 families have received assistance in the last 29 years through this program.

Contributions can be made online at www.heatga.org. or donations can be mailed to H.E.A.T., c/o Wachovia Bank, P.O. Box 930112, Atlanta, GA 31193. For more information, contact H.E.A.T. at 678-406-0212 or the City of Douglas Utilities Customer Service Department at (912) 389-3499.
