[ARCHIVED] SOUTH GEORGIA OUTDOOR EXPO

The South Georgia Outdoor Expo will be held at Central Square Complex in downtown Douglas, August 24, 2012 from 1pm-7pm and August 25, 2012 9am-5pm. Vendors and sponsors have already filled both exhibit halls inside Central Square Complex and will be located on the outside grounds as well. Spaces are full with items relating to outdoor apparel, hunting gear, ATVs, boats, hunting/camping trips, fishing accessories, and more specialty outdoor merchandise.

The event will kick off with the Wild Game Supper, which will be held on Thursday, August 23rd, at the C.E. Weir Center, located at 307 E. Bryan Street. The Wild Game Supper will begin at 6:30pm with Georgia DNR Commissioner Mark Williams as the guest speaker. Tickets are $15.00 and can be purchased through the Central Services Department, located 200 S. Madison Avenue in Douglas, Georgia. Events partners helping to make this event possible include Gopher Plantation, who will caterer and serve up spectacular wild game dishes; National Wild Turkey Federation, Georgia Hunting & Fishing Federation, and McRae Coca Cola.

Attendees are guaranteed a two day event that is packed with live demonstrations, hands-on activities, and fun for the entire family. Norris Shoe Store will present Steve Scruggs, Rocky Snakemaster "Snakes Alive" educational seminar that will have three special performances, which will be on Friday, August, 24th, at 4:00pm and on Saturday, August 25th at 11:00am and 3:00pm. Steve Scruggs, AKA the SnakeMaster, will conduct these seminars that will educate attendees about the snakes of Georgia which will include live Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnakes, Timber/Canebrake Rattlesnakes, Water Moccasins, and Copperheads and a special showing of a Western Diamondback Rattlesnake. The seminars will also include non-venomous snakes that the public can hold or touch. Performance is included in the daily admission fee.

Join Van McCall and the God in the Hunt team for an exciting and informative adventure entitled “The Outdoor Life Experience”. The event is a 5 station event of different interactive outdoor & hunting events that are designed to teach outdoor& hunting skills, reinforcing character building principles and just plain FUN! Ages for the event will be 7 – 16 . The programs will be offered on Friday @ 5:30 PM and again on Saturday @ 9:30 AM and 1:30 PM. Events include simulated archery hunt; giant water balloon deer hunt; camp site; the chicken shoot & others. Sign up for this event will be done at the God in the Hunt Exhibit booth or by walk up at time of the event. God in the Hunt is a Christian based Youth mentoring program using the platform of Hunting to reinforce Christian based Character principles in youth (mccallministries.org)

Attendees don't want to miss Keith Johnson and his 4000 gallon mobile aquarium that travels the country performing at over 25 sports, fishing, boat, hunting and outdoor expos, including fairs and store grand openings. Demonstrations will be held on Friday, August 24, 2012 at 1:30pm, 3:00pm, and 6:00pm and on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 10:00am, 2:00pm, and 4:00pm at Central Square Complex. This demo will teach fishing techniques combined with information on using the right lure to make the big catch.

The Outdoor Channel Outfitters World Record Exhibit is an impressive array of World Records featuring the Hansen Buck, the world record typical whitetail, the Missouri Monarch, the famous Hole in the Horn Buck, as well as many other World Record class big game animals and sport fish. The exhibit travels the Nation displaying this fine collection of World Class trophies. It is certainly an attention getter, with over 1 million impressions per year.

A free workshop, “Spectacular Saltwater Fishing on the Georgia Coast”, by Bert Deener will be offered on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 1:00pm in the Dogwood meeting room at Central Square Complex. Other Events include: Chaos - Mechanical Bull, BB Gun Simulator, Petting Zoo by General Coffee State Park, Fishing Simulator, Kid's Educational and Fun Area and other related events.

Satilla River Outdoors will sponsor a renowned exhibit featuring Rufus, a monster 200 class Whitetail deer on Friday, August 24. Rufus lives at Springcreek Wildlife in Valdosta, Georgia and was featured in the television series Walking Dead, in the inaugural episode. Rufus is used in exhibition and educational settings to educate and inform people about Whitetail deer. On Saturday, Aug. 25, Satilla River Outdoors will give you a chance to meet Levi Morgan, ASA champion shooter and co-host of the Sportsman Channel's "Gold Tips Name the Game".
