[ARCHIVED] Fire Hydrant Testing Notice

The City of Douglas Fire Department will conduct fire hydrant testing from Monday, March 18, 2024, to Friday, March 22, 2024. The testing will start at 8:30 p.m. each night and end at 4:00 a.m. the following morning. The testing will take place in the Northeast Douglas (N. Madison Avenue to Ward Street), during off-peak hours to minimize traffic disruption.

During hydrant testing, water may appear rusty or cloudy. Customers are advised to let the faucets run until the water becomes clear. Doing so can clear any rust that may have dislodged from the line. Customers are also advised to be cautious when washing clothes as it may cause discoloration. Before washing clothes or cooking, please let the water run clear before using it.

The City of Douglas/ESG Operations Water Department offers a "rust-out" solution for clothing that became discolored during hydrant testing. The solution is available free of charge to any customer who needs it. Please call (912) 384-3302 if you require the Rust-Out solution for clothing.

For more information about hydrant testing, please call the Douglas Fire Department at (912) 384-4815.
