[ARCHIVED] Public Notice to Amend the City of Douglas Code of Ordinances Regarding Position of City Marshal

The City of Douglas hereby notifies its residents and interested parties of a proposed amendment to the City of Douglas Code of Ordinances concerning the position of City Marshal.

The amendments will be reviewed and read for the first time at a regular meeting of the Mayor and City Commissioners of the City of Douglas, Georgia, on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at 6:00 PM at City Hall, located at 302 S Madison Avenue, Douglas, Georgia.

This notice provides information on the position and its duties to amend and delete in its entirety:

#1 Section 2-183 and #2 Section 10-36 so as to abolish the position of City Marshal;

#3 Section 4-4, #4 Section 10-43, #5 Section 10-147, #6 Section 10-47, #7 Section 16-256, and #8 Section 103-124 will be amended to delete any references to City Marshal or Marshal’s Office and replace with Code Enforcement Division and/or Code Enforcement Supervisor, and also to repeal the division operating as a law enforcement agency and to remove arrest powers.

This amendment will be read for the second time followed by a public hearing on Monday, December 23, 2024, at 6 PM at City Hall, located at 302 S Madison Avenue, Douglas, Georgia.  After the public hearing, the ordinance will be voted upon at the regular meeting of the Mayor and City Commissioners.  Anyone interested in said ordinance should be in appearance at the said meeting on the above-stated dates.
