The Bicycle Ride Across Georgia (BRAG) will celebrate its 34th year by returning to Douglas June 4 – 6, 2013 and bring with it over 800 bicycle riders! BRAG is an annual bicycle ride that many out of state and out of country bicyclists enjoy each year. This year, BRAG will begin on Sunday, June 2 in Cordele, and bicyclists will discover southern hospitality as they travel through Tifton, Ocilla, Douglas, Waycross, Brunswick, and end their journey in St. Mary’s at Waterfront Park.
“We are pleased that Douglas has been chosen as the two night stay for BRAG riders this year,” says Mayor James Dennis. “Our tourism staff is working with South Georgia State College to offer quality entertainment, farm fresh produce, and a relaxing atmosphere to the riders. We are asking for community volunteers to help out with our efforts to make this a memorable event for BRAG riders.”
South Georgia State College will be the overnight host and riders will begin entering Douglas on Wednesday, June 4 and will remain on the SGSC campus until Thursday, June 6 when they will depart and head to Waycross. Motorists are asked to be more mindful of safety with these additional bicyclists on our roads. Organizers are busy preparing activities for the riders to enjoy such as swimming at the City Pool, enjoying the Annual Summer Beach Bash in downtown Douglas, dining, and shopping with local merchants.
In order to make this event a success, the City of Douglas needs your help. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or learning more about BRAG, please contact Central Services at (912)383-0277 or visit the BRAG website at www.brag.org.
