The City of Douglas is excited to participate in Georgia Cities Week, which is sponsored by the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA). Last year, over 160 cities, including Douglas, participated in various programs and events to honor this week dedicated to celebrating Georgia's cities. This year's celebration will take place from April 18 to April 25, 2026, and will include a variety of events. The theme for this year's Georgia Cities Week is "Love Your City."
“Our city takes great pride in the services we provide to residents and visitors alike,” says Mayor Tony Paulk. “Cities are essential in delivering the infrastructure and services that support business growth and create opportunities for events that bring families and community members together.”
Every resident is invited to take part in the “Love Your City” Photo Contest throughout the April 25, 2026. This is a people’s choice competition, and winners will be selected based on the total number of “likes,” “loves,” and “wows” their photos receive across participating social media platforms. From April 20 through April 25, 2026, at 5 p.m., the public can view the entries and vote for their favorites on the City of Douglas Facebook page (cityofdouglasgagovernment) and Instagram (cityofdouglasgagov). Georgia Cities Week will begin on April 18, 2026, with The Greatest American Cleanup, taking place on Saturday, April 18, from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers should meet at City Hall before heading out to designated areas throughout Douglas identified through the KDB Litter Index. Cleanup efforts will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until noon followed by a volunteer lunch. Volunteers are needed! This event is an excellent opportunity for clubs, organizations, churches, businesses, and individuals to roll up their sleeves, help keep Douglas beautiful, and earn community service hours. Show your love for Public Safety officers on April 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Heroes, Trucks, and Big Wheels: Touch‑a‑Truck & Safety Day at Coffee Regional Medical Center, held in conjunction with the Health & Wellness Fair. Attendees can meet local officers, climb aboard fire trucks and police vehicles, explore the Kids Zone, enjoy food trucks, and more!
Spring Junk Free Week and Tire Amnesty Week will take place Monday, April 20 through Friday, April 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 1011 Shirley Avenue (corner of Shirley Avenue and College Park Drive). For residents living within the Douglas city limits, disposal fees will be waived during this week for large household and junk items, including up to four tires per household. Proof of residency, such as a utility bill, is required. Please note that no commercial or farm tires will be accepted. Tires must be rubber only—no rims. Residents must provide a copy of their utility bill and be in line by 4:15 p.m. For more information, call (912) 389‑3450.
Think you know Douglas better than anyone? Prove it during Trivia Week on the city’s Facebook page, where you’ll find fun questions about city services, local projects, and notable figures. City Departments will also host a Public Service Career Day for high school students. Participants will tour various departments, meet city officials and staff, and learn firsthand how each department serves the community.
On Wednesday, April 22, the Coffee Alliance for Arts will host Munch and Music at Central Square Gym (grass area behind the gym) at noon, featuring Darci Tuten. The Douglas Fire Department is partnering with Chick‑fil‑A for a Touch‑The‑Truck Event on Thursday, April 23, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Bring the kids to learn about fire safety, explore the fire trucks, and meet our DFD firefighters. Also on Thursday at 5:15 p.m., the Douglas Mayor’s Youth Council will host their End‑of‑Year Banquet at the C.E. Weir Center. Our youth leaders will reflect on their accomplishments and extend best wishes to the 2026 graduates.

Madison Ave.) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. All attendees will be entered for a chance to win one of two $100 utility credits or one of two $50 utility credits.
