[ARCHIVED] FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS CHRISTMAS PARADE THEME

The City of Douglas announces the theme for this year’s Festival of Lights Christmas Parade. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Christmas Parade, event organizers have chosen the theme of “Celebrating the Golden Years.” The annual parade will be on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 6:30 p.m.

“The Christmas Parade began in 1963 and we have seen many different themes throughout the years,” says Georgia Henderson, Central Services Director. “The 50th anniversary of any event is a great achievement and we encourage entries to focus building their floats using the Golden theme.”

The parade will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2013, and will start at 6:30pm on Peterson Avenue, with lineup beginning from the First United Methodist Church to Walker Street. The primary mission of the Annual Festival of Lights Parade is to provide a safe, enjoyable, and quality family environment, in and on the streets of Douglas. At 6:00pm, the 5K Run and Walk will begin along the parade route. The Annual Festival of Lights Parade will light up Peterson Avenue at 6:30pm and make its way from the Courthouse to the Alternative Education Center.

Registration will begin September 3, 2013 at the Central Services Department offices located at 200 S. Madison Avenue. For more information about the Festival of Lights Christmas Parade, please call (912) 383-0277 or info@cityofdouglas.com.
