[ARCHIVED] CELEBRATE THE CENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY OF ASHLEY SLATER HOUSE WITH RIBBON CUTTING AND TOURS

The City of Douglas and Coffee County Historical Society invite you to attend the centennial celebration and ribbon cutting of the Douglas Visitor Information Center, which is also known as the Ashley-Slater House. This historic house on Gaskin Avenue is now home to the Douglas Visitor Information Center, Public Information Department, and Main Street. The ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Thursday, December 11th, at 10:00am. Tours of the home will be conducted by the Coffee County Historical Society later that evening from 5:00pm – 7:00pm. As a part of the Centennial Celebration, the week of December 8 – 12, the Visitor Information Center will host a daily trivia. Those who come to the Visitor Information Center and answer the daily trivia question correctly could receive a commemorative Ashley Slater House Centennial Celebration Christmas ornament or another promotional item.

“We are thrilled to be in our new location and invite everyone to attend the ribbon cutting and tours of the home,” says Georgia Henderson, Public Information Director.

Construction began on the Ashley Slater House in 1912 and was not completed until 1914. The house has a haunting story of life, love and tragedy for the original occupants of the home. The Douglas Visitor Information Center will be a visitor’s one stop shop to receive information about attractions in Douglas/Coffee County as well as Georgia and purchase local souvenirs.
