Elected
officials from Douglas were among hundreds of city officials to attend the Georgia Municipal Association’s annual Conference in
Savannah June 23-June 27, 2017. The annual conference provides city officials
with an opportunity to learn more about legislation under consideration, attend
training sessions, and hear from state leaders.
“GMA’s
Annual Conference allows city officials to attend training and networking
opportunities with other city and state officials. Attending GMA training sessions helps further
my knowledge as a Mayor and enables me to better serve the citizens of Douglas,”
said Mayor Tony Paulk.
In addition to the
late City Commissioner Johnnie Lee Roper’s induction into GMA’s Hall of Fame, Commissioner
Kentaiwon Durham received the prestigious Certificate of Achievement from the Georgia
Municipal Training Institute and wowed the attendees with his talented voice as
he sang the National Anthem during the opening general session. Wynetta Bolder, Douglas City Clerk and
President of Georgia Municipal Clerks and Finance Officers Association (GMCFOA),
was sworn in as a GMA Board of Directors member, and also presented the Clerk
and Finance Officer of the Year Award. Kristi
Morgan, Executive Assistant/Deputy City Clerk for Douglas City Manager’s
Office, received the Georgia County
Clerks Association and the Georgia Municipal Clerks and
Finance Officers Association (GMC/FOA) Georgia Clerk Certification on Sunday,
June 25, 2017. To receive a Georgia
Clerk Certification, City Clerk’s attend 100 hours of educational and professional development
standards required instructional courses. Terrell Jacobs, City Manager and Wynetta
Bolder will
be serving one year on the GMA Legislative Policy Council.
“As a first time
attendee to the GMA Conference, I found the event encourages engagement between
elected officials,” says Commissioner Taylor.
“I am happy to be a part of municipal government and anxious to attend
more opportunities that will benefit me as an elected official.”
