The City of Douglas has been notified by the Georgia Department of Transportation that contractor, East Coast Asphalt LLC, will begin resurfacing about 2.5 miles of SR 31 South beginning Sunday, Nov. 4 at 7pm. The project runs from south of Chester Avenue to south of the intersection of Madison Avenue. The contractor will be milling (removing the top layer of asphalt) prior to resurfacing. Work will be done from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. East Coast plans to work Sunday through Thursday and is scheduled to begin Sunday night, November 4, 2018. The project completion date is Jan. 31, 2019 and the construction cost is $1 million. SR 31 North has been resurfaced more recently than the southbound side, which is why the project is for southbound only.
The proposed start date and days the contractor will be on site are subject to change based on weather and/or the contractor's schedule. Motorists should schedule extra travel time as the work will require a lane closure.
