[ARCHIVED] CITY INTRODUCES NEW COMERCIAL RECYCLING CART PROGRAM

The City of Douglas Recycling program is now offering their commercial customers recycling carts. Commercial customers can call the City of Douglas Customer Service Department at 389-3499 and request the carts to be delivered to their place of business. Commercial recycling carts will be emptied on a weekly basis. Customers can also choose to "mix & match" their carts which will give them the option to trade in a regular cart for a recycling cart to meet their needs.

“In the past, commercial customers could request a recycling dumpster,” says Charlie Davis, Assistant City Manager. “Now we can offer our commercial customers a recycling cart if their business does not need a dumpster.”

Items that can be recycled are plastic milk jugs, plastic soda and water bottles, laundry soap jugs, aluminum cans, tin & steel cans, cardboard boxes, newspaper, junk mail, magazines, catalogs, phone books, office paper, and food boxes. No sorting is required by the business. Recycling drop off centers are conveniently located at the Public Works Department behind City Hall, at Fire Station #1 on Gordon Street, and at the Southside Fire Station near the Airport .

To request a recycling cart for your business, please call the Customer Service Department (912) 389-3499. If you need help determining which trash/recycling and frequency is best for your business, please call for a Waste stream analysis at 389-3450.
