[ARCHIVED] REGISTRATION OPEN FOR DOUGLAS 101 CITIZENS ACADEMY PROGRAM

Douglas – The City of Douglas is now taking registration for the Douglas 101 Citizens Academy Program. Class dates will not be set until a minimum of 12 people sign up to participate and should begin somewhere between February 2012 through April 2012. Sessions are generally held on Tuesday evenings from 6pm – 8pm.

“The Douglas 101 Citizens Academy Program is for individuals who have a sincere interest in our community and want to become educated about how our City government operates,” says City Manager Terrell Jacobs. “We want to make this a fun and interactive experience for our citizens. Participants will learn about their local government and the services it provides, ranging from elected officials, department directors, as well as programs and initiatives. Citizens will even have an opportunity to take an active role in their neighborhood and community.”

Topics that will be covered in the Citizens Academy Program will include, but are not limited to: utilities, finance, parks and recreation, customer service, public safety, community development, tourism and more. Sessions will also involve tours to various departments. Participants will be asked to attend at least one City Commission Meetings and at least one Volunteer Committee Meeting as a part of the academy.

The Douglas 101 Citizens Academy Program is for citizens aged 18 and older.
