Representatives from agencies including the City of Douglas, Coffee County Commission, Douglas Police Department, Coffee County Sheriff Office, Coffee Ministerial Association, NAACP, the Empowerment Center, and other concerned individuals of the community gathered at City Hall on Monday, February 20, 2012 to create a Coffee County “Stop the Violence” initiative with the purpose of getting citizens involved in crime prevention. Working together, the representatives of these agencies are committed members of our community who will seek to do everything possible to redirect people away from violence and towards positive, hopeful futures.
“Local agencies are concerned about the rising tide of violent crime involving youth and other aged adults within our community,” says Terrell Jacobs, City Manager. “By forming a united “Stop the Violence” initiative and asking our citizens to get involved, we hope to stop violent crimes before they can occur.”
If you would like to become a part of this initiative, the next meeting is scheduled for Friday, February 24, 2012 at 11am at City Hall. For more information, about the Stop the Violence Initiative, please call (912) 389-3401 or visit www.cityofdouglas.com.
