[ARCHIVED] PUBLIC NOTICE - Public Hearing of Distance Variance Application by Murphy Oil USA

The City of Douglas has received a request for a distance variance from Murphy Oil USA. The location of the request is at 1448 Bowens Mill Road Douglas, GA 31533. The location is in the General Commercial (G-C) District. Murphy seeks permission to rebuild the gas station with a convenience store while having gas pumps 38.75 ft. from the rear property line. The code requires gas pumps to be 50 ft. from the property line. Murphy will miss this requirement by 11.25 ft. Murphy is also seeking permission to build the convenience store without the eight (8) additional parking spaces required. Rather they would like to continue the project with the three (3) parking spaces provided on their site plans.

The Douglas-Coffee County Planning Commission will hold a regular meeting to discuss this request on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall in the Council Chambers, located at 302 S Madison Avenue, Douglas, GA 31533.  

After discussion by the Planning Commission, the request, along with a public hearing, will be made before the Mayor and City Commissioners for consideration, approving, or denying the request on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at 6:00 PM at City Hall, located at 302 S Madison Avenue, Douglas, Georgia 31533.

Anyone interested or has feedback regarding the variance request should appear at the said meetings on the above-stated dates. A copy of the variance request may be reviewed at City Hall in the Community Development Department, Planning Division, 302 S Madison Avenue Douglas, GA 31533, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Holiday hours may differ. The review may take place between now through May 28, 2024 by 5:00p.m.
