[ARCHIVED] GEORGIA CITIES WEEK: “CITIES: WHERE THE ACTION IS” APRIL 21 – APRIL 27, 2013

The City of Douglas announces plans for hosting a variety of events in celebration of Georgia Cities Week, April 20 through April 27, 2013. The theme of this year’s Georgia Cities Week is “Cities: Where the Action Is”, which will showcase how cities share information about the valuable services cities provide to residents and how cities positively impact their way of life.

“We’re very proud of Douglas and the services we provide to improve resident and visitor quality of life,” said Mayor James Dennis. “Douglas provides quality of life through our infrastructure, economic development and essential services to our citizens.”

Citizens can participate in the annual Spring Junk Free Week, April 22 through April 27, 2013, between the hours of 8:30am – 6:30pm and half day collection on Saturday, April 27, 2013, between the hours of 8:30am-1:00pm. On Monday, April 22nd , the City Commission will hold its regular meeting and will recognize the winners of the “If I were Mayor” Essay Contest. The contest was held in February and allowed 6th graders in Coffee County to write an essay about how they would run the City. Coffee Alliance for Arts will host Munch and Music at Emma Ward Park at 12noon on Wednesday, April 24, and will showcase local talent. Everyone is encouraged to walk in the Commit 2B Fit walk on Thursday, April 25 which begins at the Coffee County Alternative Education Center (old Pre-K Academy) at 5:30pm. The Customer Service Department will host its Customer Appreciation Day on Friday, April 26 from 9am-4pm at City Hall, express appreciation to loyal customers by serving popcorn and drinks. The weeklong celebration will conclude with the Coffee County Relay for Life Walk that begins Friday, April 26, 7:00pm, through Saturday morning, April 27 at the Coffee Track on South Peterson Avenue.
