According to City Manager Terrell Jacobs, there was an overwhelming response from the customers who signed up to continue to participate in the recycling program. Because of the increased participation, the City has worked out a plan with Transwaste Industries to alter the residential recycling pick up dates to better service customers.
The plan involves dividing customers into two groups, A and B. A&B groups will both be collected on Friday, June 14th as previously publicized. Customers in group A will again have their recyclables collected on June 21st and from thence forward collection for this group will be every other week. Customers in group B, after having their recyclables collected on June 14th, will not have their collection again until June 28th and from thence forward collection for this group will be every other week.
To better help customers to understand this change, a map will be posted on the City’s website (www.cityofdouglas.com/recycling) so that customers can determine if they are in group A or B. To give some prospective, Group A will be residents from GA 206 West and south of Ward Street. Group B will be residents north of Ward Street and east of GA 206.
For customers who still have not completed the form to participate in the Residential Recycling Program, they can obtain a copy of the form from the City’s website or at City Hall. All forms should be submitted back to the Utility Billing and Collections Department at City Hall.
“The City of Douglas and Transwaste appreciate the patience of our customers”, says Jacobs. “We know that we have changed the schedule and it could become confusing, but we are here to assist our customers with the information they need so that they can correctly participate in the sanitation and recycling collection services. We extend a sincere apology to our customers for any confusions and inconveniences these changes may have caused. If this participation in the recycling program continues to increase, there may be some other expected changes in the future to collection schedules, but we will do our best to relay the changes over to our customers when and if this happens.”
