Citizens are invited to join the Ward 1 community as they help to cleanup Douglas – one neighborhood at a time. The Community Awareness Group and other community agencies will partner to host the fourth Community Cleanup Day on Saturday, October 19, 8:00am-12noon at Eastside Park located at 605 E. Franklin Street.
“This is the fourth community cleanup that local leaders will hold in Douglas,” says City Manager, Terrell Jacobs. “We hope that by having these initial cleanups, we will motivate people in each City Ward to look around and cleanup their neighborhood. After the first Community Cleanup Days are held in each utility billing ward, Transwaste will begin to place dumpster/roll-offs in different areas of each ward for citizens to continue to clean up their community at various times during the year.”
On Community Cleanup Days, a dumpster will be placed in a different neighborhood to offer residents a way to dispose of large, non-hazardous items and electronic items at no cost. Acceptable brown and white good items include furniture, washing machines, refrigerators, dryers, stoves, microwaves, television, etc. This does not apply to hazardous chemicals such as paints/solvents, household cleaners, pesticides/herbicides, motor oil, antifreeze, batteries, or tires. Proof of residency is required to drop off items at the designated location.
Volunteers are needed for this event and lunch will be provided to the volunteers following the cleanup at 12noon. Special pickup options are available for the elderly (65 yrs. & older) and those with physical handicaps.
