[ARCHIVED] COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING SPECTACULAR TOY DRIVE, MUSICAL AND TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY

To kick-off the Holiday Season, the City of Douglas, along with many local community agencies, are hosting a community wide musical celebration and toy drive. The Community Thanksgiving Spectacular will be held on Saturday, November 19, from 4pm – 7pm. A combination of events will take place downtown beginning at the Martin Centre with a Community Musical and Toy Drive at 4pm, followed by a Tree Lighting Ceremony at 6:30pm at Atkinson Plaza.

“This event is a collaborative event with community agencies to ensure that children in our community will have a toy for Christmas,” says Terrell Jacobs, City Manager. “We need our community to support this event. Everyone is invited to come out and donate a toy for the children in our community who may not receive a toy if the Toy Drive is not successful.”

The community is invited to attend the Community Thanksgiving Spectacular Musical and Toy Drive that will be hosted at the Martin Centre beginning at 4pm. Community leaders have planned a holiday program with music selections from two Community Choirs under the direction of Alexis Scott and Gina LaBorde. Expressions Dance Studio, On Your Toes Dance Studio, and Stage 8 Dance Academy will provide holiday dance selections from their upcoming holiday dance recitals. Entry to the Musical at the Martin Centre will be a $10 donation or a new $10 unwrapped child’s toy. After the Musical, everyone will move to Atkinson Plaza for the lighting of the Community Christmas Tree.

Special thanks to Southwire, Georgia State Patrol, CSRA Probation Services, Coffee County Sheriff’s Department, Douglas Police Department, Douglas Fire Department and the City of Douglas for their contribution for this community event. To make an advance donation of $10 or to donate a $10 toy in advance, please stop by the Douglas Visitor Information Center located at 211 S. Gaskin Avenue.
