[ARCHIVED] COMMISSIONER JOHNNIE LEE ROPER, SR. HONORED POSTHUMOUSLY BY GEORGIA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

During the regular City Commission meeting on Monday, April 10, 2017, State Representative Dominic LaRiccia presented the Johnnie Lee Roper, Sr., family with an official copy of 2017-2018 House Resolution 746 honoring Commissioner Roper’s life.  Commissioner Roper served Douglas citizens for over 23 years until his death on Monday, March 20, 2017.

The resolution was presented by Representatives LaRiccia of the 169th, Williams of the 168th, and Pirkle of the 155th to the House on March 28, 2017.  The Resolution summarizes the life of Johnnie Lee Roper, Sr. and his impact on Douglas, Coffee County, and the state of Georgia, as a respected leader.  Also included in the resolution are the initiatives he championed for; most recently being the creation and construction of a Miracle Field for disabled youth in the Coffee County community and his work within Gaines Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church.
