On Monday, February 18, 2019, the City Manager and City Commission announced that Captain Shane Edmisten, from Braselton, Georgia, will assume the role as the Douglas Police Department Chief of Police. Edmisten will begin his role as DPD Chief beginning March 4, 2019.
“Mr. Edmisten brings over 24 years of experience and training to our Police Department,” says City Manager Charles Davis. “We are looking forward to Edmisten becoming an asset to our Police Department as well as our community.”
After graduating from North Gwinnett High School, Mr. Edmisten earned his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Phoenix. In 2011, he earned his Masters of Public Administration from Columbus State University’s Georgia Law Enforcement Command College.
Mr. Edmisten has been with the Suwanee, Georgia Police Department since 1994. He holds several Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certifications and has specialized training in several law enforcement areas. In addition to his training, Mr. Edmisten, oversaw day to day operations of law enforcement divisions and reported directly to the Suwanee Chief of Police. He has served in the capacity of the Suwanee police department’s budget/financial officer, Public Information Officer, and representative during county wide emergencies. Edmisten began his law enforcement career in 1994 at the Hall County Sheriff’s Office in Gainesville, Georgia.
